Phloretin CF versus C E Ferulic
The C E Ferulic has vitamin E in it, whereas the Phloretin does not.
If you have oily skin you should probably use the Phloretin CF. This is because the vitamin E in the C E Ferulic adds moisture and hydration to your skin and sometimes could cause a little more of an acne breakout situation.
I know if I use too much of the Ferulic I do get little pimples, sort of water pimples.
That is what the C E Ferulic with the vitamin E does – it hydrates you.
Both of them are excellent. They both help with hyperpigmentation, they both have vitamin C, they both have Ferulic acid in them.
The Phloretin CF is specifically designed for oily skin and people with acne breakouts. SkinCeuticals developed the Phloretin for people that do have oily skin and can’t tolerate the C E Ferulic, so they could get the benefits of an antioxidant serum.
So both products are excellent for you. You’ll notice a difference within days. It has a little bit of UV protection, normally for about 40 minutes, but once you put the product on, it cannot be washed, it’s in there, it’s helping you, it’s stopping DNA damage, it’s helping to rebuild the collagen.
The Phloretin also helps with hyperpigmentation and some redness. I don’t recommend the Phloretin CF if you’re dry because I’ve noticed that in some people their faces get more red, irritated and itchy because it’s drying out their skin.
The main difference between the Phloretin CF and the Phloretin gel is just a consistency of the gel. They do the exact same thing but some people cannot tolerate the serum so the gel allows them to put it on a little easier on their skin and they’re able to tolerate it.
What is SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF
Phloretin is an antioxidant that protects against UVA and UVB rays and against free radical damage. If you’ve heard of SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, this is its counterpart for oily and acne prone skin.
Using Phloretin, made of an antioxidant derived from apple tree bark, l-ascorbic acid and ferulic acid, it corrects existing skin damage, diminishes hyperpigmentation, helps acne prone skin and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
A buzzword you hear a lot besides retinol is antioxidant. They really work and doctors are really enthusiastic about them.
What they do is they protect the skin cells from free radicals, which are caused by the sun, pollution, smoke and that kind of things that make the skin look older.
The idea is to use an antioxidant and a sunscreen to really protect your skin.
Phloretin penetrates very quickly into the skin where it does its job.
- 2% phloretin neutralizes free radicals, accelerates cell turnover and reduces the production of unwanted pigment.
- 10% L-ascorbic acid neutralizes free radicals and promotes collagen synthesis.
- 0.5% ferulic acid neutralizes free radicals, inhibits UV-induced melanogenesis, and has anti-inflammatory properties.

My Experience With Phloretin CF
I first heard about this product many years ago when I was reading a magazine and I noticed that it was on the Allure beauty experts award list and I thought to myself “okay, this is perfect.”
I was in my early 30s and it was a good time for me to start investing in a quality wrinkle prevention item. When it comes down to wrinkles it’s a lot easier to prevent them than to actually treat them.
I ordered it here, the shipping was fast and before long I got it.
When I first started using it, I was pretty excited because it was serum and I was looking specifically for a serum because that means I didn’t have to switch out my skincare routine. This was pretty much just a supplemental thing I can add on to it.
I did not have too high of hopes because it’s supposed to prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging, which means long term benefits. Usually with those type of products there’s not so much improvement that you can see the short term.
However after two weeks or so of using it, I did notice a drastic improvement in my skin.
Although my skin is pretty clear, I’m very fair so I get sunspots very easily. It doesn’t matter how much sunscreen I put on it or if I wear sunglasses, on the high points on my face, like my cheekbones, I get sunspots.
Those were just so irritating and I kept trying to get rid of it through all these products and it just didn’t work.
However when I introduced the Phloretin CF into my skin care regime, after a couple weeks my spots started fading and I know it had to be this product because nothing else in my skin care routine has changed.
You just take a little bit in your hand and you concentrate it on the areas that need it the most. For women, wrinkles appear the fastest around eyes, smile lines and your forehead.
So I apply it first on these areas and than I take the leftovers and I put it on my face and on my neck and on my hands, because the neck and your hands are also areas where aging shows up the fastest.
You only use it once a day.
I found that after a couple weeks, my sunspots were fading pretty drastically and by maybe a month or so, it was pretty much gone.
My skin is so sensitive that I can’t use any liquid foundation or it breaks me out. The only thing I can get away with is tinted moisturizer or a moisturizer in some of the matte black powder. Obviously those two items don’t give me a lot of coverage.
The fact that I found a serum that pretty much brighten my skin a lot and got rid of my sunspots was just amazing to me. Besides that, it works with your skin to improve its elastin and it makes your elastin last a lot longer.
Basically you get wrinkles when the elastin in your skin breaks down. That was why I bought this product to do, but it ended up doing a whole lot for my skin than I thought it would.
It’s been several years and I’m still loving it.
If you want a skin care item that prevents against wrinkles, this would be your best bet.
Based on an experiment done by SkinCeuticals, Rejuvenation Medical Aesthetics tested out how C E Ferulic and Phloretin CF prevent, protect, and correct your skin.
They both protect your skin against environmental damage caused by free radicals, which cause visible signs of accelerated skin aging.
The best way to understand the damage your skin undergoes from environmental factors is through a experiment.
You will be AMAZED at the preventative and corrective results the C E Ferulic and Phloretin CF were proven to show.
Take a look for yourself:
Phloretin CF is going to be differentiated from the C E Ferulic in that C E Ferulic has vitamin E in it. It’s really for more dry people, while the Phloretin CF has taking out the vitamin E and put Phloretin instead, which is powerful antioxidant.
The Phloretin CF is going to be more for problematic skin. If you have acne, if you have pigment, you really want to go with the Phloretin CF over the C E Ferulic.
I see that confusion all the time.
Instead of that vitamin E, instead of those oils, instead of that more moisturizing effect, Phloretin CF is really more for problematic patient that really has bad sun damage or acne prone and can’t take that much oil or hydration.
Phloretin CF is a serum and it’s going to go on very soon after you put on your cleanser. I would put this on in the morning. It’s going to give you those antioxidant properties, really reversing sun damage, helping you protect from sun damage in the future.
But also with a heavy bend of antioxidant to help that really pigmented skin, that damaged skin. And also not as much oils in it to really be able to be used for the patients that are more oily or acne-prone.
