How To Make Irish Coffee At Home (A Simple Recipe)
Ingredients and Tools Required:
- Goblet-style glass (150-200ml capacity).
- Whiskey (e.g., Bushmills Black Bush, or other single malt or blended whiskey).
- Brown or white sugar (alternatives like honey or muscovado can be used).
- Whipping cream (30% fat content preferred).
- Coffee brewing equipment (e.g., AeroPress, French press, or moka pot).
- A shaker or jar with a lid for whipping cream.
Directions:
- 4 parts hot coffee, 1 part whiskey, 1 part cream, and 2 teaspoons of sugar.
- Use hot water to warm the glass before brewing coffee for better temperature retention.
- Brew 130ml of coffee using 12g of finely ground beans.
- Add 10g (2 spoons) of sugar and 30ml (3cl) of whiskey. Stir to combine.
- Shake whipping cream in a shaker or jar for 15–20 seconds to incorporate air.
- Strain the cream to remove bubbles and pour over the back of a spoon to create a distinct layer on the coffee.
If cream mixes with coffee, shake it longer for a thicker consistency.
If cream is too thick or forms butter-like chunks, it has been over-shaken and needs reworking.
Experiment with different types of whiskey, sugar, cream, and coffee beans to vary flavors.
