Black Bean Burger | Plant-based, Healthy, High-Protein

Ingredients:

1 15 oz can of Black Beans
1/2 red bell pepper
1/2 Green bell pepper
1/2-1cup grated carrots
1 medium red onion
Cumin
Smoked paprika
Cayenne pepper
Salt
Like Sweet Like Smokey
Black pepper
1/2 cup chickpea flour
1 tsb vegan Worcestershire
1 tbs BBQ sauce
Oil for sauteing and for frying
Vegan pretzel bun
Guacamole
Sliced red onions
Sliced tomatoes

Mac Sauce:
1/2 cup vegan mayo
2 tbs diced pickles or relish
2 tbs ketchup
2 tsp yellow mustard
1 tsp vinegar
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp coconut sugar

Easy Vegan Burger Recipe

Instructions:

  • Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C).
  • Spread rinsed black beans on a baking sheet (use parchment paper if desired).
  • Bake for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Set aside to cool.
  • Heat 3 tbsp olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add red onion, bell peppers, and grated carrots. Sauté for 8-10 minutes until soft.
  • Season with minced garlic, cumin, cayenne, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt. Stir well.
  • Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, mash black beans until 75-80% mashed, leaving some texture.
  • Add the cooked veggie mixture, then mix in chickpea flour, Worcestershire sauce, BBQ sauce, and nutritional yeast.
  • Stir well until fully combined.
  • Oil your hands and a scoop. Shape the mixture into ⅓ cup-sized patties, about ½ inch thick.
  • Place patties on a plate and refrigerate for 15 minutes to firm up.
  • Heat 3 tbsp avocado oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add patties and cook for 3 minutes per side, lowering heat to medium-low after 15 seconds.
  • If using vegan cheese, place a slice on top in the last minute of cooking. Cover to help melt.
  • In a small bowl, mix together vegan mayo, diced pickles, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and coconut sugar. Stir until smooth.
  • Spread vegan butter on the cut sides of the buns. Toast in a pan until golden.
  • On the bottom bun, spread guacamole, then layer black bean patties, sliced red onions, sliced tomatoes, and Mac sauce on the top bun.
  • Assemble the burger and take a big bite! Enjoy this delicious plant-based meal.
