This easy bread recipe will help you make the best bakery style sausage buns/sausage rolls /hot dog buns using a few ingredients at home.

They are light, soft, and most of all kid-friendly. They are real crowd-pleasers.

Ingredients:

  • Flour :325 g (2 1/2 cups)
  • Slightly warm milk (not hot) :190 ml (3/4 cup + 2 tsp)
  • Butter :50g (3 1/2 tbsp)
  • Yeast (instant):1 tsp( If Active dried yeast, use 1 and 1/4 tsp)
  • Sugar :2 1/2 tbsp (30g)
  • Salt:1 1/4 tsp(7g)

Easy Sausage Buns Recipe

Instructions:

  • In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, salt, and yeast. Stir to mix, and let it sit for a few minutes until the yeast activates (it should get foamy).
  • Add softened butter and mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the flour, a little at a time, until the dough starts to come together.
  • Transfer the dough onto a clean surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth, soft, and elastic.
  • Cover the dough with a bowl or kitchen towel and let it rise for 30 minutes, or until it slightly doubles in size.
  • While the dough is rising, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Fry the sausages until they are slightly crisped. Set them aside to cool.
  • After the dough has risen, divide it into 8 equal portions.
  • Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten it into a thin sheet.
  • Roll each sheet around the sausage, pinching and sealing the edges.
  • Shape each roll into a 12-inch rope, keeping the center thicker than the ends, then curl it around the sausage and tuck in the ends.
  • Place the shaped rolls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover them with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let them rise for another 45 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush the tops of the buns with the beaten egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds (optional).
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Once baked, remove the buns from the oven and brush the tops with butter while still warm for added softness.
