Instructions
Make the Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine the self-rising flour and yogurt until well mixed. The dough will be sticky and soft. Avoid adding more flour; just ensure the ingredients are combined.
Prepare to Fry
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. The oil should reach a temperature of 160-170°C (320-330°F). If you don’t have a thermometer, ensure the oil is bubbling and sizzling around the edges.
Shape the Donuts
- Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a round tip (or use a Ziploc bag with the corner cut off). You can also use a spoon to dollop the mixture directly into the hot oil.
- Carefully pipe or spoon the dough into the hot oil. Note that the donuts will sink initially but will float as they cook.
Fry the Donuts
- Fry the donuts for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown. Use a spatula to gently move them around for even cooking.
- Once cooked, remove the donuts from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
Add Toppings
- Plain Sugar Donuts: Toss the hot donuts in plain sugar until fully coated.
- Glazed Donuts: In a bowl, mix melted butter, powdered sugar, and warm milk to make the glaze. Coat the donuts completely in the glaze and allow the excess to drip off on a rack.
- Chocolate Glazed Donuts: Use the leftover glaze and mix in cocoa powder to taste. Coat the donuts in this chocolate glaze and let the excess drip off.
Enjoy the donuts warm as a delicious treat! You won’t be able to stop at just one!
